Habitat for Humanity in Burke County NC strives to build homes that are energy efficient and help our homeowners save on energy costs.

In 2009, Habitat began building with 2x6 studs on 2 foot centers, saving an estimated 23% in framing costs. The spaces are filled with a double layer of Blue Board insulation donated by Dow which is sealed with caulk or spray foam, also donated by Dow.

Sealed crawl spaces with positive pressure systems, keep out moisture and mold and help maintain the level of air quality required for the SystemVision rating.

Small pieces cut from the Blue Board is saved and added to the ceiling insulation further enhancing the R-value already rated at R38. Habitat's construction manager makes every effort to reuse and recyce building materials - less waste and less negative impacr on the environment.

habitat kitchenWhirlpool donates a refridgerator and stove for each Habitat home. Vinyl siding is also donated. Grants and environmental incentives help make Habitat home construction possible.
